Rude Awakening

This morning we were jolted awake by the crowing of a rooster, "¡QUI QUI RI QUI!"
As a reminder, as of yesterday, we did not own any roosters. Since roosters are illegal in city limits, Andy had to dispatch this animal ASAP. It was a small bird, but it will still provide nourishment. Our poor turkey, Mr. Bowling, is in mourning. He hasn't stopped gobbling in grief since this afternoon. He's lonely. :(

Happy Father's Day!

Here's what's left...

A predator, most likely a coyote, found our free-ranging Power Ranger-Ghostbuster pullets. This is all that was left of one. :( Matilde noticed she was gone and bet that it was a coyote that got to her. She did some exploring and peered under the barn which is where she found this wing. She told her class in their announcements what happened so they wouldn't have to wonder where the missing bird went.

One bird. One shot.

That's a quail.
Only a whole bunch more to feed the rest of us.
Hahaha

I keep falling asleep early....

This is a photo of Cousin Ty's turkey!  He went turkey hunting in his home state (AZ) last weekend and bagged a bird for the big day!  He dressed it and now it patiently awaits a warm November afternoon with the Kraenzlers.  Congrats my friend and enjoy that warm fuzzy feeling of knowing where your food has come from! (Not that Safeway is a bad place for food to come from....)

For the Birds

This birdhouse is mounted without a back on our bedroom window. If any birds decide to stay, we will get to see what they're up to right from our bed. Sort of like a lazy bird watcher.  ;)

Anyone notice the line Andy mounted for his hops???

For the Birds

Tilly made a few bird feeders last week, and we decided to place a few in the front trees.  There are two in this tree, and the small orange dot in the background is another for Mr. Matt, our friendly neighbor.
