Seed Trays

These seed trays were a little different than those we have used in the past. They started as little disks. We added 10.5 cups warm water and they expanded upward. The soil is encased in a weird net sort of fabric. You tear it back to reveal the soil.

We planted more than a few seeds to get our growing started!  We are a little late, but we do have some starts to be transplanted as soon as the beds are ready to go. Hopefully by this weekend.

"Before & After"

"Walla Walla Sweet Tooth"

This onion was absolutely delicious.  It was also very large!  It's satisfying to know that I planted that seed myself.  I know I am constantly tooting my horn, but at times I can't figure out what we did differently this year to make it work...to actually make things grow!  I'm not gloating.  I'm flabbergasted. Hahaha!

Do try this at home!

Yesterday, we ate these two green onions fresh from the garden. After slicing them, we placed the roots in water.  They are already starting to grow back!  I couldn't believe it!

Our start.

This is one of our bell pepper starts. We transplanted tons of green onions, bell peppers, cilantro and chiles this afternoon. I hope they grow vigorously!
Our veggies planted so far include:
Cilantro
Chiles
Bell peppers
Green onions
Walla Walla sweets
Radishes
Carrots
Peas
Runner beans
Three varieties of potatoes
And many starts waiting to be transplanted into their permanent home in our garden.
Here's to a great start!

Little space in the city

We are very cramped for space here in the city. Our home is very tiny and we have this single available window sill. Our veggie starts fight for a spot in the sun, but it's fun to see them propped in a v on our bookshelf. It hasn't stopped them from taking off! I hope the sun stays and they survive the transplant to the raised beds.
