New Berries

Everyone in our house has been eyeballing this small and perfect strawberry. It so sweetly hangs over the edge of the planter ripening in the glow of the afternoon sun. Who will be the lucky one?

My guess is HEATHER! Hahaha
Our dear friend Heather plucked our very first cherry tomato from the vine a few years back.  Everyone would admire that tomato and we would talk incessantly about how proud we were for having grown it. I look back and still chuckle at that.  She saw it, it was ripe and needed to be eaten, so she ate it!

Strawberries (part 2)

Andy suggested I look closer for green berries. I doubted him, but I suppose I shouldn't have because look what I found!!

Strawberries

The strawberries returned this year and they are bigger than ever! The plants not the berries... I'm not sure, but I feel like we should be seeing little green berry nubs by now. Isn't the end of June strawberry season?  Maybe I'm just a tad antsy and anxious for those sweet little berries. *sigh*

Raspberries

This tiny plant is such a nice sight considering the chickens wiped them out last spring.  Darn Donnas!

Raspberries

I cleaned up the raspberries a bit. Weeded and removed the bricks that were lining the far side. The family that owned the home before us REALLY liked to decorate with broken bricks and chunks of concrete. Yikes! They are (were) everywhere. We plan to box the berries in and possibly line it with mesh of some sort to keep the chickens from eating all of our leaves and berries. Those sneaky little Donnas!
