A week apart

I took the first photo on June first and the other late this afternoon. What a difference a little sunshine, some water, and a threat can do for a sunflower's growth!
Short Round on the right, however, didn't budge an inch (vertically!).

In progress

I just now noticed these three photos on my phone. They aren't from the same angle, but you can easily see the differences.  It's incredible how big and fast our veggies have grown!

Lookin good!

We are off to a good start. Our cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, kale, tomatoes, lettuces, and garlic are looking great!  They are enjoying the rain and continue to grow without consistent sunshine. I'm excited to see what will be around come harvest time. I tend to be a bit pessimistic because of worms from the past seasons. I do, however, feel differently about this year's crop. I've even been talking to the plants more. We'll see if that works....

Peas

We planted a ton of peas this year and only a few have survived. This little guy is growing strong, and it's growing on the trellis we built to replace the massive rhododendron. We thought our neighbor would be upset that it took some of his privacy away, but it had the opposite effect. He sits on his porch and plays his acoustic guitar while we garden. It is very nice. We are enjoying the company of our new neighbors as well. I've become quite fond of our north Delridge neighborhood.

My favorite stage!

This is my favorite stage of plant growth. I just love watching the actual seed that was planted to naturally fall off as the newly grown leaves stretch out.

Pear Blossoms

So beautiful....
I don't remember blossoms last year.  This tree is quickly becoming my favorite. 🍐

Strawberries, strawberries everywhere!

The strawberry plants are still growing wild and free both in the planter boxes and in the hanging planters. They all look like they will produce wonderful fruit. We just cannot wait!  Now our only concern is our main predator....Matilde! She gobbles them up every chance she gets. We'll have to keep a watchful eye on that little strawberry sneaker.

Still Growing

This lone plant is still growing strong!  It's from the salad mix that Andy dumped out in the box last fall. Matilde yanked the other plant that survived thinking it was a weed, but I was able to stop her before she pulled this one too!

Pears!

I love this time of year!  I love the smell of the rain and watching all of the signs of new growth. It's a new beginning and it happens all on its own.

Our pears are forming big buds and in a year or two those buds will be pears!  We are excited for our new planting season!  We will be planting in bulk this year. It seems to be the best idea for us. We took a look back at what we harvested and what didn't grow well and went from there. Safe to say pumpkins and melons are out!  Potatoes are in and they will have an entire box to themselves this season!  We will send more photos as we start planting!

What are YOU planting?

It doesn't take much...

This little plant sprouted in our boot scraper. It was a nice surprise to see this little bit of green reaching up through the muck. Weed or not, it doesn't take much for a seed to come to life.

Green Onions

These puppies are really taking off!  They have been batted down by the hard rains lately, but they are growing pretty tall.

Anyone notice Evan pulling weeds in the background?  I hadn't noticed that until I was ready to send it to all of you. What a big help that was!

An AZ Tomato

I love getting photos of what others are up to!  Here are a pair of photos of Aunt Laurie's tomato plant about a month or so apart. That plant is huge! I can't believe (well, I guess I can given your location) you have tomatoes growing in February! Way to go!!

What are YOU growing? Send me a pic!

Raspberries

This tiny plant is such a nice sight considering the chickens wiped them out last spring.  Darn Donnas!

Two days..

These guys caught my eye this week. The lettuce is growing under the warmth of the corn stalks, and the green onions are unstoppable!

Veggies popping up in the winter...What great sight to see!

Time to prune.

These grapes took off, but now it's time to prune....I think.  Any suggestions what to do next?! I know we need to prep for the coming year, but what's first?

The hops are what's hoppening!

Hahaha I couldn't resist!

So, we had a tour visitor who was absolutely certain that hops ONLY grew straight up and were IMPOSSIBLE plants to train.  I smiled and said we were new to farming and new to growing hops, but thought we'd try it anyway. Trial and error. But now, I look outside and see this plant growing up and hanging a right on the line!  Booya!

The corn is coming in spectacularly!  I just hope that it continues.

Our Neighbor's Garden

Walking through our neighborhood, I noticed this cute little spot of land.  It was so neat and tidy I had to photograph it!  It just proves that you can plant a lot in a small amount of space. They saved their yard and only opened up a few square feet, but that's enough to feed your family fresh veggies throughout the summer and maybe beyond.  A+ neighbor!
