The kids had a lot of fun holding, feeding, and playing with all of our animals today. It was a ton of fun!

Raspberries
This tiny plant is such a nice sight considering the chickens wiped them out last spring. Darn Donnas!

Two days...still not caught up
EGGS!!!!
All three Donnas are laying again. All is right with the world! It truly is a relief and a wonderful sight to see. The cartons will fill and the "fresh eggs for sale" sign will go out again.
Hooray!

...and she's SAFE!
Black Donna pulled through and saved herself from my frying pan. Literally saved herself because we had been planning on butchering in the coming weeks. She is through molting, has adjusted to the cold weather, and has also adjusted to the shorter days.
Huzzah! We have an egg!
Now they other two need to get it together or I will dredge them in flour!
Muwhahahaha.

Catching up
Here is a bag of furs. I do not exactly know what Andy's plan is with them at this point. I'm sure I'll find out soon. (Andy likes to take blurry photos.)
Look who decided to come outside today! First time in weeks! Makes my heart warm. Now, how to get them laying again? Jen suggested supplements in their food. My response to that was they they will be supplementing my food if they don't get their act together quick!
Stolen berry picker from the Smiths. It's awesome! Andy is a sneaky one!

What a bunch of chickens!
My poor Donnas have yet to leave their coop since the coyote sneak attack. I'm worried they won't make it through the winter if they refuse to get some vitamin d. Their wattles and combs are fading in color, but I'm not exactly sure that's related to it or not. Still no eggs. :(

Lost & Found
We've missed a few eggs these past few days. We couldn't figure out why our girls stopped laying. Then, we found their stash in the chicken tractor!

Sneaky, sneaky
These Donnas sneak in unnoticed and peck away at the floor. I was cooking and baking and listening to music when a pecking on the wood floors grabbed my attention. They think they're indoor chickens!

The Donnas
Here are the girls making a mess of that bale of straw we picked up. It was in a matter of minutes! Bad Donnas!

No Anjou!
Looks like the Donnas feasted this week! Seems as though we may not be enjoying Anjou or Bartlett pears this year. I suppose that is another lesson to be learned...Do not procrastinate when it comes to protecting your crops with netting. This could have been prevented. I think our apples may have a little bit if life left, but we need to hustle to protect those too!

Shell-less egg and daily update (4/25)
Yesterday morning Chacha went out for her morning chores and found this egg nestled in the hay of the chicken coop. The yolk caught her eye, and as she looked closer, she realized it had a weak, thin, and flimsy shell. This egg is presumed to have come from the younger Donnas, possibly from the Russian Orloff. We will supplement with more egg shells and make sure they are getting their fair share and monitor their intake of the laying mix of grains. Today their were no eggs from the younger birds. I hope we can help her out.

The Chicken Tractor
Andy fixed up the chicken tractor right before heading out of town, and he did a great job! He added a ladder and a nesting box for our girls and they are enjoying their time in the grass. It's warming up a tad, but should cool off again. I hope they continue to like it even in the cool evenings to come.

Easter eggs!
Today, Andy found a beautiful mint green egg in the chicken coop! What a fun sight to see. More eggs! That means our other Donnnna, the Russian Orloff, should be laying soon. I am beyond excited to see more of these green eggs! I love it!

A warning!
If you have chickens and the back door is open they will come inside!
What a surprise! These girls are hilarious! Just pecking and scratching all around before I shooed them back outside.
